FAME is converting the 2010 Annual Report to a 6-page print format, reducing the amount of paper consumption for the annual edition. This will result in a substantive decline in paper consumption and the associated environmental impact.

LET’S ALL MAKE A “GREEN” EFFORT TO REDUCE, RECYCLE AND REUSE.

“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed. (Proverbs 16:3)”

As I complete my sixth year as Pastor of First AME Church of Los Angeles I thank my beautiful wife and partner in ministry and service, Denise, for her love, leadership and support.  I am grateful for the guiding hand of our Bishop, the Right Reverend T. Larry Kirkland, Sr. and for the constant prayers of our Presiding Elder, Reverend Dr. Norman D. Copeland.

When Denise and I reflect over this last year and witness the commitment of the FAME congregation to help our brothers and sisters in crisis, we are overwhelmed with gratitude and humbled by their compassion.  Whether it is praying for the victims of Hurricane Katrina five years after the flooding, being one of the first Churches in Los Angeles to respond with generous donations to the earthquake tragedy in Haiti, or celebrating our strength in charity through the spirit of Nelson Mandela Day, I am proud to be the Pastor of FAME and pleased with the hard work we are accomplishing together as a unified force of good in a challenging world.

This has been a great year for FAME Corporations!  I am filled with gratitude and appreciation to God, our staff, and my family for their love and support as we conclude another year.  I am particularly grateful to my husband, Pastor John for always believing in me and standing in the gap as we work together to build an amazing ministry.

I am so proud of the work FAME is doing to improve the lives of our brothers and sisters in the community.  We are helping everyone step-up to the challenge of praising God in mind and body by providing affordable fresh fruits and vegetables every weekend at the FAME So Fresh Produce Market.  We are offering free cooking classes with a professional chef and nutritionist to encourage learning more about healthy cooking.  We are also leading the way in increasing physical activity in our lives with two important campaigns: Let’s Move L.A. and Let’s Move 5th District

First African Methodist Episcopal Church, Los Angeles is the oldest church founded by African Americans in the City of Angels. In 1872 Mrs. Biddy Mason received the vision from God to establish a church that would minister to the mind, body and soul of all who would join that small band of believers. That vision and small band of believers has grown to what is now a congregation of more than 19,000 members and several dozen ministries within 13 corporations that bless and reach tens of thousands of seekers in greater metropolitan Los Angeles. Built on the foundation laid by Bishop Richard Allen who in the City of Philadelphia in 1787 started the movement vthat later became the African Methodist Episcopal Church, FAME Church finds joy in being the “First To Serve.”
