An estimated crowd of nearly 20,000 people flocked to a job fair hosted by the Congressional Black Caucus in Los Angeles on Wednesday at Crenshaw Christian Center.
The fifth and final job fair in a series that also included events in Cleveland, Detroit, Miami and Atlanta, Wednesday’s event was hosted by Congresswoman Maxine Waters, and co-hosted by Congresswoman Laura Richardson and Congresswoman Karen Bass, whose districts are nearby. Pastor John J. Hunter and First Lady Denise Hunter represented First AME Church of Los Angeles and attended the Town Hall Meeting. FAME Leadership supported the Job Fair and FAME Staff Members manned a booth at the fair as nine CBC members and Rev. Jesse Jackson were on hand to lead the crowd at the entrance in chanting “I can make it!”. More than 140 employers — ranging from Disneyland, to the Watts Health Center, to the Los Angeles Fire Department — were on hand to accept applications and meet prospective employees.
